Honeywell material helps protect police in Brazil’s second largest state
MORRIS PLAINS, NJ, Feb. 13, 2017 / PRNewswire
Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced that its Gold Shield® ballistic composite materials are being used by Glagio Brazil to create protective ballistic clothing for the second largest force Police of Brazil, of Minas Gerais. Public safety bodies are progressively moving to armor that is more protective, lighter, and more flexible. These materials should be comfortable enough to be used in regions with varying weather conditions that may be hidden under police uniforms.
Gold Shield makes Glagio’s clothing in Brazil durable and resistant to meet the stringent requirements of military clothing applications, which can match or exceed those that are established for public safety clothing. Due to Honeywell’s patented Shield technology, Gold Shield outperforms products made from aramid fiber fabrics to protect against various types of trauma such as multiple impacts, ballistic injuries and the nape of the neck.
“We are looking for a high-performance material from which we could produce clothing that provides military-grade protection, while being lighter and more comfortable than today’s models,” said Glagio do Brasil Ltda. General Manager Luiz Paulo Lopes. “With Honeywell’s Gold Shield, we can incorporate the most innovative armor technology into our products to help protect the brave police in Minas Gerais.” Glagio do Brasil manufactures protective equipment for various public security agencies and for the Brazilian armed forces, such as the Federal Police, the Federal Highway Police, and the Army, Navy and Air Force of Brazil.
“Honeywell’s global supply of ballistic composite materials helps ensure that public safety and armed forces have access to the best armor technology in the world,” said Honeywell Packaging and Composites general manager of corporate protection, Greg Davis. “The Gold Shield is a great material for police attire. It helps ensure that Brazilian police officers protect against ballistic threats while allowing them to move comfortably under a variety of conditions “
Honeywell’s Gold Shield ballistic composite products take advantage of Honeywell’s unique technology that is able to combine a variety of aramid fibers and resins to meet specific performance requirements in malleable or solid armor applications. Gold Shield and Spectra Shield products have been widely adopted and tested for the most advanced armor applications globally, from bulletproof vests, pectorals and helmets to combat vehicles and military aircraft – all of them requiring low weight and superior performance solutions.
