Glagio do Brasil chooses Honeywell’s Gold Shield ballistic materials for use in protective equipment

Glagio do Brasil, a Brazilian manufacturer of protective equipment for several branches of Brazil’s law enforcement and military, recently chose Honeywell’s Gold Shield ballistic composite materials for use in ballistic protective vests for the country’s second-largest police force in Minas Gerais.

“We sought a high-performance material from which we could produce vests that provide military-grade protection, while also being lighter and more comfortable than current models,” Luiz Paulo Lopes, Glagio do Brasil general manager, said. “With Honeywell Gold Shield, we can incorporate the most innovative armor technology into our products to help protect the brave officers of Minas Gerais.”

The decision follows a trend by law enforcement agencies worldwide to adopt more lightweight and flexible materials for body armor that can be worn in varied weather conditions.
Gold Shield products combine a variety of aramid fibers and resins to meet specified performance requirements in both soft and hard armor applications. The company’s Gold Shield and Spectra Shield products have been adopted for use in bullet-resistant vests, breastplates, and helmets for combat vehicles and military aircraft.

“Honeywell’s global supply of ballistic composite materials helps ensure that law enforcement agencies and militaries have access to the world’s leading armor technology,” Greg Davis, global business manager for body protection, Honeywell Packaging and Composites, said. “Gold Shield is the optimal material for law enforcement vests that helps ensure Brazil’s police officers are protected from ballistic threats, while also being able to move comfortably under a variety of conditions.”

Glagio do Brasil has previously manufactured protective equipment from Brazil’s Federal Police, Federal Highway Police, and the Brazilian Army, Navy and Air Force.
