Gold Shield Material Protecting Large Police Force in Brazil

Honeywell announced recently that the company’s Gold Shield® ballistic fabrics are being incorporated into products made by Glagio do Brasil, a company that makes ballistic vests for police officers in Minas Gerais, which has the 2nd largest police force in all of Brazil.

Law enforcement across the world is increasingly moving towards protective body armor that offers more flexibility and is lighter in weight. The fabrics need to be comfortable to wear in regions known for diverse weather conditions, plus they need to be concealable under officers’ uniforms.

Gold Shield® composite materials allow Glazio do Brasil’s protective vests to be strong and durable enough to meet military vest requirements, which are very stringent and can equal or even exceed the requirements established for law enforcement protective vests. Thanks to Honeywell’s Gold Shield® fabrics, made with the company’s patented Shield technology, these ballistic composite materials outperform woven aramid products when it comes to protecting against a variety of trauma, like multi-hit, backface and ballistics.

Luiz Paulo Lopez, speaking on behalf of Glagio do Brasil Ltda said, “We looked for a high-performance fabric that we could use to make vests with military-grade protection that were also lighter in weight and more comfortable to wear than our current products.” He added, “With Gold Shield® from Honeywell, we can implement the most advanced armor technology into our protective products to better serve the brave police officers in Minas Gerais.”

Glagio do Brasil also makes protective equipment for a number of military and law enforcement branches in Brazil, including the Brazilian Army, Air Force and Navy as well as the Federal Police and Federal Highway Police.

Honeywell’s global business manager, Greg Davis said, “Our company’s global supply of outstanding ballistic composite materials ensures that militaries and law enforcement agencies have access to the most advanced armor technology in the world. He went on to add, “Gold Shield® is by far the best fabric for protective vests for law enforcement and helps ensure that police officers in Brazil are well protected against ballistic threats, while maintaining the ability to move around comfortably under different conditions.”

Honeywell’s Gold Shield® products are made with the company’s ballistic composite materials, making use of its innovative Shield technology, which combines a range of aramid fibers with resins to meet the stringent performance requirements in both hard and soft armor applications. Spectra Shield® and Gold Shield® products have certainly been widely embraced and proven to perform well for the most advanced global armor applications in use today, all requiring superior performance and lightweight solutions, including bullet-resistant protective vests, helmets, breastplates, combat vehicles and even military aircraft.
